Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See

Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See is one of my favorite children's books. I love that children learn many things from this book. It's easy for them to learn their colors, counting, animal names and about animals and that in your imagination you can make animals other colors than what they are in real life. This has always been one of the favorite books of all the children that I have taught. My son actually learned his colors from this book and about comparison. He compared the colors on the inside covers to an actually rainbow.

  2. Hi Chenieka
'Brown Bear, Brown Bear' is a versatile book indeed. In fact all Eric Carle books are great resources to use in the classroom. I love the technique Eric Carle uses for all his illustrations. In the past we have had the 3 year olds paint huge sheets of paper in a variety of ways and then used their coloured paper to make displays in the classroom.

  3. Hi Cheneika,

I am a big fan of Eric Carle! I love the effective technique he uses with his illustrations and the repetitiveness of the wording of his stories. The children really get into this story especially when the teacher extends on the storyline with activities! Great choice!

  4. Chenieka,

Eric Carle is such a dreamer. I love his books a well. I love all of his books. It seems that children can learn so much from his books. You are so right about how much children can learn from this book. I love the rhyming and prediction. The colors and the best thing is all the creative juices that start running through the children's minds. As well as my creative juices to help encourage actives to meet all the needs of the children.
    Thank you for sharing.

  5. Chenieka,

I use the series with brown bear, panda bear, and polar bear when I teach my preschoolers about the five senses. It is often funny because there is always one who will say, "but a horse isn't that color." This type of comment then leads to the imagination part, as you mentioned.

    Great pick.
